  8. Volunteers Please Read. Important, Urgent, News, Updates Whilst many jobs, roles and positions are available now or soon and your participation is greatly appreciated and welcome, the following are more immediate. Some require little or no skills, including some leadership positions, be it temporary, shared, deputised or otherwise. Developers on the Explorer. We urgently need developers on all levels to maintain, untangle, develop and beautify the Explorer. Fromm a lead/senior developer, experienced developers and people with experience, willing to learn quickly and help out. Javascript Node.js, React and php; front end, back end and/or full stack will all help. Developers for Social Media. We urgently need developers who can build, edit and/or maintain websites and/or social media sites, forums or groups. Php, MySql experience will help. We want to maximise our social media presence on the internet to draw interest from the public, science enthusiasts, scientists, related organisations, sponsors and volunteers from appropriate sectors, internationally. SEO, algorithms and advising or assisting in anything to achieve this aim is all helpful. Administrators & Moderators. We urgently need admins & mods to help look after the Website and our social media as well as internal membership. No experience necessarily required. Leaders. We urgently need various team/group leaders. If you see the list of roles/positions/teams, there are leadership positions in many of them and you could well take one on with little/no experience other than a desire/enthusiasm to run with the role. We can discuss areas/have a meeting, you will be given further information and hopefully start to get on with it and ready to receive, instruct and help other team members. I want team leaders in place ASAP, first to ensure a quick and smooth and orderly, professional start. Help will always be available. You may be the first to join a team, but this time can be taken advantage of by preparing anything you need. Video producers/Editors and Marketing/PR skills. We urgently need a person/people who can put together a quality video presentation of the project for marketing purposes. Much of the information, a storyboard and the data/media is ready to use/compile. You need to be clear about the project and its strengths/selling points and how best to present them, if any overriding flow (like animation, key figures or background) is beneficial and then put it together in a format that can be widely used on Funding sites and perhaps shorter versions be made available to select audiences, so it could be made in sections for easy separation purposes. All volunteers will be given a personalised project e-mail. If any of these roles are of interest, please apply or speak to someone if you want to know more.
  9. Data Entry novice, no skills or experience: This is a blanket description to incorporate all data entry roles. You will work with an experienced data entry team member or group member. You will learn the ropes and develop the skills and knowledge to work independently. There are progressive tests and certificates along the way if you choose to progress and you can become a trainer, supervisor, researcher and team leader. You will learn how to do research, add species and data to the tree, and more complex clade work. Scientists and some enthusiasts may be able to adapt quickly from the documentation and/or any help needed and work independently or in (or leading a) a team or may prefer researching, training or supervising. Likewise for specialists and advisors who may or may not be so actively involved practically, but leading or advising or sharing research and being available. Everyone is responsible to the group leader or deputy or delegate through the chain. Consultants are scientists who are there for guidance. Work types will be determined by the group leaders, but options may include working alone, in pairs or groups, working on minimal entry per species or clade/taxon or completing each aspect more fully or working on error corrections or coming up with new ideas or researching or any combination. You may work on areas of the tree you prefer or are given. Data Entry experience: This is a blanket description to incorporate all data entry roles. 10. Senior Node.JS: This is being written by a non-developer, so any re-write is gratefully appreciated. We have a Mongo DB (Database) and we are using JavaScript. We need Node.JS and React developers to help on the project. We are open source on GitHub and have channels available on the Explorer project Slack and Website forums. We need help in breadth and width, from a Group leader and deputy to run and manage the project to a team of experienced developers and lesser able but willing new blood to learn and maybe some patience from someone willing to support those not so proficient. This development group is led by a group leader on the Explorer and a deputy, who will work closely with the domain leader and the Data Entry team. Other developers, on and off the project itself, will be responsible to the group leaders or delegates and all control of the database remains with the Explorer Project. Group leaders are responsible for monitoring/keeping track of what is done on the coding side and looking after an organized system of control and progress and error checking. 15. Traditional artist: We need artists in various roles within the project. Whilst extant organisms will usually be represented by photos or video, extinct ones will be by artwork, be it traditional, digital, animated or some other form. Work is also required for the Website and other social media sites. There are also publishing sub-projects available for collaboration and the chance to produce original artwork which, as well as being included in the project, can be auctioned off or given as a prize in fundraising work. Any work will be attributed and fully recognized, and all contributors will be promoted on the Website and available to viewers as promotion for yourself. Any work that is published for money, (e.g. in book or other format), then any royalties will apply or they can be donated to the project. Aspects, like skeletons for example would benefit from 3D/animation work, and video of species are welcome. We also need video help/skills/equipment for producing promotion materials, for tutorials and educational purposes, for our YouTube channel. If you can help produce such videos or are good with advising or marketing such material, all the better. We are also looking for someone to help produce documentation and protocols for this group, so team, group, domain leaders are welcome, even if you just do so initially as a person to go to when people arrive in this group, or until someone else takes over or can do it more long term. Video Presentation producer: You will have experience and some expertise in producing videos/presentations, preferably with some natural or learned sense of expressing a project onto a digital format in the best way to put forward to a mixed public audience, but hopefully support to help and fill any skills or gaps will be available. You may also or just want to focus on simple tutorial type videos or YouTube presentations. If an outsourcing budget is needed to produce some animation or something else, it will be considered. You may or may not have equipment or software available, in which case the role may need to be shared. Re: the promo video presentation needed for GofundMe and other purposes of promoting and marketing, Steve Owen has a lot already prepared and would like to sell/discuss it with anyone interested in helping in this area. You will be responsible for helping to produce some quality work, you may be working with others or in a team or largely alone, and you will be responsible to a team or group leader.
